Jan Saudek (Czech, b.1935) is considered a leading Czech photographer, best known for his depictions of nudes and youthful figures arranged in dreamlike spaces. His compositions evoke the dramatic tableaus of early photography, with subjects artificially posed in front of the viewer. A survivor of World War II, many of Saudek's family members died in concentration camps, and photography.

Nejčastějším předmětem jeho fotografií je žena, ženské tělo a motivy vztahu ženy a muže. V počátcích své tvorby se zabýval také tematikou dětství a vztahu mezi dospělými a dětmi. Od roku 1977 své fotografie koloruje.

His first book was published in 1983. Saudek started doing photography as a freelancer since he was stopped by the Czech Communists to work for the print shop and was not allowed to work as an artist. Also in 1987, the negatives of his photographs were detained by the police for some time.
